Last night I performed as the featured artist at the gala dinner for YWCA Canada’s Annual Member’s Meeting, hosted by YWCA Edmonton under this year’s theme: Women and Power. I still haven’t quite come down from it.

The room was full of women who lead — board members, executive directors, delegates from YWCA chapters across the country — all there to push forward governance changes meant to put more power directly in women’s hands. You could feel it before a single speech began: this wasn’t a polite annual meeting, it was a room actively deciding to do things differently.

I’ve played a lot of rooms. Few have felt this certain about why they’d gathered. Grateful doesn’t quite cover it, but it’s where I’ll start. What a great audience!
